Mobility scooter and wheelchair rental in Amsterdam and the Netherlands: a guide for visitors

Traveling to the Netherlands with someone who can't walk far? Rent a mobility scooter, wheelchair or rollator, delivered to your hotel and picked up when you leave. What it costs, how to book from abroad, and what to know before you go.

The Netherlands is flat, compact and easy to get around, but a day of sightseeing still means a lot of walking. In Amsterdam alone it adds up fast: from the station to the canals, on to a museum, out for dinner, back to the hotel. For a traveler who tires quickly, a parent still recovering from surgery, or a grandparent who hasn't walked that far in years, the walking often decides whether the trip works.

MR Motion rents mobility scooters, wheelchairs and rollators and brings them to where you are staying, anywhere in the Netherlands. At the end of your stay we pick them up again. This guide explains what you can rent, what it costs, how to book from home or once you are here, and a few practical things worth knowing before you travel.

Who is MR Motion?

MR Motion is a Dutch rental company based near Amsterdam. We rent mobility equipment to private customers, including visitors from abroad.

  • The equipment is our own. We maintain and repair it ourselves, so if something goes wrong you call us, not a third party.
  • We deliver and pick up ourselves, in our own van, and show you how everything works.
  • Every unit is charged, cleaned and inspected after each rental before it goes out again.
  • Everything works in English: the website, the booking, the emails and the people who answer the phone.

Why rent here instead of bringing your own

  • You don't have to fly with it. Taking your own scooter on a plane means checking your airline's battery rules and handing it over to the hold. A rental is delivered to your accommodation instead.
  • It comes to your door. We deliver to your hotel, vacation rental or relatives' home, carry it in and explain it.
  • Nothing to return. When your stay ends we collect it. No shop to find on your last morning.
  • No deposit on your card. You pay the rental up front and nothing else is blocked on your card while you travel.

What you can rent

Each item has its own page with photos and specifications. Check the maximum user weight first, because it differs per item.

Wheelchair

Manual and foldable, 15.4 kg, for users up to 114 kg. Someone pushes, or you propel yourself. Folded, it fits in the trunk of a car, so a day trip by car stays easy. A good choice for a city break when the person using it can't stand or walk for long. See the wheelchair.

Rollator

Light, foldable and height-adjustable: 10 kg, for users up to 121 kg. For someone who can walk but needs support, and a seat whenever they need a rest, whether that is in a queue, on a long street or at a viewpoint. See the rollator.

Mobility scooter that takes apart

Comes apart into a few sections that fit in a car trunk, which suits a trip with a rental car. It weighs about 40 kg in total, goes around 12 km on a charge and carries users up to 120 kg. Charged overnight, it covers a normal day out, and it fits in almost every lift. See the scooter.

Heavy-duty mobility scooter

Sturdy and comfortable, with a range of around 55 km and room for users up to 160 kg. The one for long days, a stay in the countryside, or a heavier user. It weighs 136 kg itself, so it doesn't go in a car and won't fit every hotel lift. Ask your accommodation before you book. See the heavy-duty scooter.

What it costs

All prices are in euros and include 9% Dutch VAT. You see the exact total for your dates, delivery included, before you pay.

A weekend away

A wheelchair costs €19.95 for the weekend, a rollator €14.95. The weekend rate applies when the rental starts on a Saturday and ends by Sunday. Scooters are rented by the week.

A week, or a shorter trip

  • Mobility scooter that takes apart: €65.35
  • Heavy-duty mobility scooter: €65.35
  • Wheelchair: €25.50
  • Rollator: €19.95

A week is the shortest rental. Staying four or five days? That is charged as one week. Book the dates you are actually here, and we arrange the pickup with you.

Two to four weeks

  • Mobility scooter that takes apart: €234.35 for four weeks
  • Heavy-duty mobility scooter: €234.35 for four weeks
  • Wheelchair: €44.95 for two weeks, €69.95 for four
  • Rollator: €34.95 for two weeks, €59.95 for four

For any length in between, you automatically pay the cheapest combination of rates.

On top of the rental

  • Delivery and pickup, together: €29.95 in Amsterdam and the surrounding area, €49.50 anywhere else in the Netherlands. Free everywhere when you rent for 4 weeks or longer.
  • Damage & theft insurance, included with every rental: €15.00 for a scooter rented up to a week and €39.50 for longer; €5.00 and €14.50 for a wheelchair or rollator. If the equipment gets damaged in normal use or is stolen, you pay nothing more.
  • Deposit: none.

How to book, before or during your trip

From home, before you travel

Most visitors book once their accommodation and dates are fixed.

  • Go to our rentals and choose the equipment, the town you are staying in and your dates. You see live availability and the full price straight away.
  • At checkout, choose delivery to a hotel or vacation address and enter its name and address.
  • Pay by card, or with iDEAL if you bank in the Netherlands. Your booking is confirmed immediately, and the confirmation and receipt arrive by email.
  • Give a phone number that works while you are traveling. We call it to agree the delivery time. There is room in the comments for a second number.

Book as soon as your dates are set. What you see is real availability, and with free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start, booking early commits you to very little.

Already in the Netherlands?

The earliest delivery day is tomorrow; later in the day, that can become the day after. Need something today? That can't be booked online, but get in touch and we will see what is possible.

Someone else can book for you

A relative or friend can make the booking, with their own details as the contact person and your accommodation as the delivery address. Mention in the comments who the equipment is for.

Delivery and pickup

Where we deliver

Anywhere in the Netherlands: a hotel, a vacation rental, a holiday park, a relative's home, or a hospital or rehabilitation center if that is where you need it.

  • Amsterdam and around, €29.95: Amsterdam (postal codes 1011 to 1109), Amstelveen, Diemen, Duivendrecht, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, Weesp, Badhoevedorp, Landsmeer and Schiphol.
  • Everywhere else, €49.50: for example Haarlem, Zaandam, Utrecht, The Hague or Rotterdam.

The postal code of the address decides the rate, not the town name.

How it works on the day

  • You choose the delivery day when you book. We call you beforehand to agree a time slot, so you don't spend a day of your trip waiting.
  • At a hotel we deliver to reception or to your room or apartment. Let reception know it is coming, so they can accept it for you. If you can be there yourself, even better: we show you how it works, from charging to the brakes, and leave only when you are comfortable with it.
  • At the end of your rental we pick it up where we delivered it, unless you arrange something else with us. No packing, no cleaning, no trip to return it.

Practical tips for your stay

  • Mind the surface. A scooter rides well on paved streets, cycle paths and seaside promenades. Loose sand and gravel are a problem, and cobblestones in old town centers are bumpy, so take them slowly.
  • Ask your hotel about steps and the lift. Older buildings, including many canal houses in Amsterdam, can have steep stairs and small lifts. The scooter that takes apart fits almost every lift; the heavy-duty one does not.
  • Charge it every night. The charger comes with the scooter and plugs into an ordinary wall socket. A full battery lasts a normal day.
  • Keep it indoors overnight. Rain and damp are bad for the electronics.
  • Stay within the Netherlands. Planning a day trip to Belgium or Germany? Check with us first, because the equipment may not go abroad without our agreement.
  • Keep it with you. Don't lend it to anyone else. If it is stolen, report it to the police and send us a copy of the report. The damage & theft insurance does not cover intent, gross negligence or loss.
  • Returning early brings no refund. The period you paid for stays yours; if you leave sooner, call us and we pick it up.

Why visitors choose MR Motion

  • Booked in minutes, with live availability and instant confirmation, so you are not waiting on a quote while planning from abroad.
  • One price up front, VAT included, with nothing added afterward.
  • No deposit blocked on your card.
  • Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start, handled by you through the link in your confirmation email. Travel plans change.
  • A weekend rate for the wheelchair and the rollator.
  • Equipment that is ours, charged, cleaned and checked after every rental.

One customer who took a scooter on a two-week family trip around the country wrote: "I was relieved there was zero deposit required. The unit easily fit into our trunk, and battery life was fantastic. Delivery and pickup were completely smooth." (Mark de J.)

Frequently asked questions

Can I book from outside the Netherlands?

Yes. The whole site is in English, you pay online by card, and your booking is confirmed straight away. A foreign phone number is fine; we use it to agree the delivery time with you.

Do I have to be at the hotel when it arrives?

Not necessarily. Reception can accept it for you if you let them know. If you can be there, we will show you how it works.

What is the shortest rental?

For a scooter, one week. A wheelchair or rollator can also be rented for a weekend, Saturday to Sunday. Anything shorter than a week is charged as a week.

What if my travel plans change?

Cancel more than 48 hours before the start and you get everything back. Between 24 and 48 hours you get half the rental back, plus the insurance and delivery in full. Within 24 hours you get the insurance and delivery back, but not the rental. Once the rental has started or the equipment has been delivered, nothing is refunded. You cancel yourself, through the link in your confirmation email, and see what you get back before you confirm.

Can I keep it longer if I extend my trip?

Call us before your last day. If the equipment is still free, we add the extra days as a follow-on booking at the normal rate, and you keep the same unit.

Is there a deposit?

No. You pay the rental, the damage & theft insurance and the delivery when you book, and that is all.
